My name is Zec, I’m a dedicated and passionate third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering (Software) (Honours) and a Bachelor of Information Technology (Network and Cybersecurity Systems) at Flinders University. With a strong academic background, and a broad range of practical experience, I’m committed to excelling in the fields of software engineering and cybersecurity.

Outside of my professional life, I have a keen interest in data analysis and machine learning, and I’m an active member of several communities, including serving as the GitHub Campus Expert for Flinders University and Adelaide. When I’m not coding, you can find me hiking, knitting, or enjoying video games.

  • Cisco Live MasterTech

Cisco Live 2024 where to start? This week, I traveled to Melbourne with Flinders University and Innovation Central Adelaide to participate in the MasterTech 2024 Challenge. It was a fantastic three days with opportunities I’d never imagined. I made valuable connections, survived on just a few hours of sleep each night, created a solution with my team, and managed to have some fun in the process.

  • New Website Update!

For a while now I have been keen on learning web development, but did not want to resort to a php based website - what I learned at uni. I initially built my site using Vue. Vue was powerful and dynamic—honestly, it was overkill for what I needed. My site didn’t need extensive interactivity, and I found myself bogged down by unnecessary features.

  • Bsides 2024

I recently had the pleasure of attending BSides Adelaide, the first-ever Adelaide edition of this dynamic InfoSec event. It was a vibrant mix of workshops, challenges, and talks that brought together enthusiasts, professionals, and innovators from across the cybersecurity spectrum. I’m thrilled to share some highlights from this fantastic experience and reflect on how it’s shaping my journey in security.

  • ACDC ECU 2024 Red / Blue Team Exercise

I recently had an amazing experience at the ACDC (Accelerating Cyber Defensive Capabilities) event, held at Edith Cowan University. This Red Team/Blue Team exercise provided a unique, high-stakes environment to test and expand my cyber defense skills, as I took on the role of a Blue Team member tasked with defending a virtual shipping port. Alongside my team from work, I faced real-time attacks from skilled Red Team members, who were relentless in their attempts to infiltrate and disrupt operations.

  • Empowering Students with Git and GitHub

Last week was an exciting milestone in my journey at Flinders University. As the newly elected President of the Flinders University Computer Society and the official GitHub Campus Expert for our university (and the only one in South Australia!), I ran my first educational workshop. With over 60 students in attendance, we delved into the basics of Git and GitHub, exploring how these essential tools can elevate collaboration and project management for everyone in tech.
